The time has finally come to update our home and get new floors!
We knew that our plywood floors were just a fix until we were going to spend big money on actual floors. It’s not regretted, because it truly was a better option than the carpet that was there previously. Here’s just a glimpse of what the carpet looked like throughout the top floor:
The carpet got torn out immediately (can you blame me?), then we lived with the stained plywood for almost two years:
It wasn’t the worse thing, but it did turn out better in some places than others which resulted in a floor with unevenness and paint splatters from when the house was built. But you throw some big rugs on where you can and get on with it 😉
This post is less of a tutorial and more of letting you see a transformation because even though we put in the floors ourselves, a.) I personally didn’t do it, and b.) apparently it’s pretty easy and all you got to do is follow the directions on the box!
Here are some before & during pics:
A HUGE pro to not jumping into floors right away was being able to live in it and see what I actually wanted. Originally I thought I wanted a dark floor (hence why we stained it dark), but after living with it I realized I wanted more of a lighter, brown tone and I’m so glad we figured that out before we made a big purchase on the wrong one.
And now here are some afters!
When you compare the two, it does kinda look like we were living like barn animals haha. So happy to finally have this major project done! I hoped you enjoyed seeing this transformation! It sure is fun being able to experience it first hand and live in it.
Wow it looks so wonderful! I didn’t think your house could look at better. Thanks for sharing.
