Throughout 2020, personal appearance was put on the back burner for many. But now that we’re (for the most part) out-and-about again, it may be time to start taking those extra steps to put your best self forward. This guide will help you take those steps on how you can always look your best and most importantly, FEEL your best so you can become that chic and put-together woman you aspire to be!

1. Take Care of Your Body

It’s hard to look and (more importantly) feel your best if you’re not taking proper care of your body. In order to be your best possible self, it’s important to start from the inside out.

Make sure you’re getting plenty of water, sleep, nutritious food, and exercise. All of these factors play a huge part in the appearance of your skin, hair, and mental health.

Of course, it’s perfectly fine to have that occasional bowl of heavy alfredo pasta or a few mixed drinks, just make sure to always work in moderation. Taking care of what’s on the inside will reflect on your outer appearance in more ways than you realize, and when trying to look your best, it’s important to start with the best “you” you can be.

2. Enhance Your Natural Beauty

Looking your best doesn’t have to include piles of high-end cosmetics and luxury hair products and treatments. Many of those women who always look so effortlessly polished and put-together simply enhance the features they have.

For makeup, try choosing one feature to emphasize. If you go for a heavier eye look, choose a more neutral lipstick or gloss. Inversely, if you go for a bolder lip color, stick with a more toned-down eye look. This will refine your appearance and allow those features to pop.

When it comes to hair care, always take the time to give your hair the attention it deserves before you leave the house. Invest in products made for your hair type and texture in order to get the best possible tresses.

Also, don’t be afraid to put down that curling or flat iron! As long as your hair is healthy, clean, and kempt, wearing your natural wave or curl pattern is an effortless look that is incredibly chic.

3. Know Your Body Type and Dress Accordingly

When it comes to building your wardrobe, knowing your body type is crucial. No matter how on-trend or fashionable, clothing that doesn’t work for your body type can leave you looking and feeling less confident in yourself.

When it comes to dressing for your body type, the key is to accentuate the parts of your body you love most, while drawing attention to anything you’re not so crazy about.

If you have a small waist, focus on clothing that hits or cinches at the smallest point of your torso. If you’re uncomfortable about a larger bottom or upper half, balance your silhouette with a more voluminous top or bottoms respectively.

In the same vein as knowing your body type, wearing well-fitted clothing is also essential in putting your best foot forward. Clothing that is too snug or loose can ruin a look and leave you looking unpolished.  Donate clothing that is ill-fitting or take it to the tailor for a refreshment.

4. Know Your Style

Just like how knowing your body type is essential to building your wardrobe, so is having a clearly defined personal style. Having a collection of versatile, well-made, and loved pieces makes getting dressed easier and, in turn, helps you create more stylish and put-together looks.

Pinterest can be a great source too. Create a board and pin outfits that appeal to you. Once you’ve amassed 50 to 100 pins, take a look and see if you can find a common denominator. Are there any styles or colors that you naturally gravitate towards? Use what you find to curate your wardrobe and develop a style that makes you feel like yourself.

5. Wear Quality Materials

When it comes to the appearance and longevity of your clothing, fabric choice is crucial. Buying clothes made from high-quality, comfortable, and breathable fabrics can have a huge effect on how you feel about your appearance and, in turn, how you present yourself to the world.

The best fabrics to go for are usually natural fabrics that offer the highest durability and comfort, such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, cashmere, and leather. They are easy to clean and, with proper care, hold their shape and appearance for way longer than synthetic fabrics such as polyester.

6. Walk with Confidence

This may seem cliché, but it couldn’t be truer. Having confidence in yourself and your appearance has a lot to do with how others view you. You could be wearing a look straight off the Chanel runway, but if you walk with your head down and shoulders hunched in bad posture, you aren’t showing the best possible version of yourself.

Carry yourself with determination and confidence and always make the best first impression possible.

Many of us have seen a woman in some public setting and thought, “Wow. She really has it all together.” She often looks effortlessly beautiful and has a killer sense of confidence that comes across even from a distance. She has places to go and people to see, and she’s going to look fabulous doing it. While her style and attitude may seem almost unattainable, it’s actually much simpler than you might realize.

These six tips are a great place to start when it comes to looking and feeling your best. Of course, wearing the right makeup and clothes isn’t everything. But these small steps all work towards creating that sense of confidence in yourself that is key to happiness and success.

One surefire way to always look your best is to have a wardrobe that fits and suits you. Not sure how to accomplish that? Check out this next post!
